Bassist
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saulo Moura started his musical journey very early in life; at 7 years old on the piano and at 13 on cello. During his early twenties, Moura was already performing professionally and recording with some of the finest bossa-nova, jazz, and samba musicians in Brazil and in Europe. He was also part of the cello section of the National Symphony Orchestra, in Brazil.
Moving to America, in 2001, he studied at Florida International University, completing a master’s degree in cello performance. Later, in 2008, he was awarded a full scholarship and a graduate teacher assistantship to study jazz bass at the University of Louisville, completing his second master’s degree in 2010. Following the conclusion of this degree, Moura accepted a full-time teaching position at Campbellsville University, founded the Almeida Duo with flutist Denis Santos, and completed a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition degree at the University of Kentucky.
After having studied, performed, and toured extensively around the world on important stages in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, England, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Russia, China, Japan, and South Korea and Dominican Republic, Moura brought his expertise to the classroom. He is now fully dedicated to the instruction and the equipping of the next generation of musicians and music educators in the state of Kentucky.
