CTI +

CTI + features the music from an exciting, transitional period for jazz and its significant performers and composers. Creed Taylor founded CTI (Creed Taylor Incorporated) in 1967, with its last release in 2010. Major artists included many of the leading figures of the time, ones who’s influence have impacted jazz and many other styles ever since. Significant artists include: Wes Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine, George Benson, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hubert Laws, Ron Carter, Joe Farrell, Chet Baker and more.

Creed and composer/arrangers Don Sebesky, Bob James, David Matthews and others created a unique sound and approach to presenting jazz that was more accessible to diverse audiences. CTI produced iconic recordings, such as Wes Montgomery’s Day In The Life, Down Here On The Ground and Road Song; Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Wave and Stone Flower; Freddie Hubbard’s Red Clay and Sky Dive; Stanley Turrentine’s Sugar and Salt Song; Hubert Law’s Afro-Classic; Joe Farrell’s Moon Germs; Chet Baker’s She Was Too Good For Me are few examples.

CTI album artwork was highly innovative and creative, setting a standard for others to follow. Many stand alone as examples and still revered today.

CTI + enjoys performing material from these artists, striving to share the spirit and sound of that important period in the history of jazz. The sextet includes many of the regions leading performers:

Mike Tracy – saxophone
Marlin McKay – trumpet/flugelhorn
Craig Wagner – guitar
Todd Hildreth – piano/keyboard
Doug Elmore – bass
Terry O’Mahoney – drum set
